Description

Was a Zelda project. Meant to have been in a story of mine. But you get a little picture i did instead with a small piece of the story that Im not finishing. Call it a oneshot.

Saria's song plays gently in the background as Link wandered aimlessly through the thick forest only to be brought right where he started. What kind of forest does such a thing? Could magic truly be envolved to create such a confusing place?
Link couldnt seem to wrap his 7 year old brain around a thought as complex as that. He also couldnt figure out why his life-long friend's favorite song seemed to be playing everywhere. Left, right, middle. Where was it coming from REALLY?
Link knew that Saria played the ocarina in these woods with the skull kids but Link had never really known just how far she would go in each time. What if one time she went in here, got lost, and then turned into a skull kid? Link immediately banished the thought out of his mind. But his heart still spoke worried beats into his chest. Though he may of stopped himself from thinking of the matter, he couldnt help but feel an alarming sense of dread as his worn out boots thudded against the dirt and grass of the echanted forest.
He would definantly need some encouragement after this, and Mido, the jealous butthole he is, better keep his mouth shut. Goddess' be damned if Link was going to get made fun of for wanting a hug from his best friend.
"Are you a friend of Saria?"
Startled, Link was pulled out of his thoughts by a skull kid, whom had itself perched up on a tree trunk near Link.
Link swallowed thickly, he had never seen a skull kid before. He had actually thought it was another one of Mido's stories to try and scare him. He wasnt afraid of anything.
"Uh.. Y-Yeah..." He responded with upmost grace and confidence.
The skull kid's demeanor seemed to relax a bit more than before and a grin spread across its face. In an instant it jumped off of its trunk and landed in front of Link, surprising the Hylian child even more.
"Wonderful! That means you know the song she plays, right? Could you play it for me, please? I love hearing it!" At the last part of that sentence the skull kid had proceeded to grab Links 's hands and spin him around.
Despite the new movement, Link was a bit confused. Why in Hyrule would this skull kid want him to play that song when the whole bloody woods blasted it at every corner? It made no sense to Link. But Link had no instrument like Saria, sure she let him mess around with hers from time to time but that's all it really was, messing around. Link cant play an instrument of any kind so he kinda felt a bit bad to let down the tree child in front of him.
"U-Umm Well... You see I.. I cant really play any instru-"
"Can you hum?" The skull kid interrupted, its head cocked to the side as its white oval eyes stared into Link's own. There was no getting out of this. Ohh Goddess' help him if Mido ever hears of this.
Link nodded half-heartedly and pulled his hands free of the skull kid's hold gently. Cracked wood, even through gloves, still hurt. With a sigh, Link began to hum the tune Saria had played for him time and time again over the years and all the noises in the background faded away as he was lost in her memories for a short time.
When he was finished, Link opened his eyes, having not realized he had closed them and looked at the forest child in front of him. He knew he couldnt sing, it was probably very off-key and rushed, and he feared that he may have disappointed the skull kid with it. If his silence said anything, that is. Still Link looked at him expectantly, awaiting his response.
"That was....AMAZING. OH MY GOODNESS. HOW LONG HAVE YOU KNOWN SARIA? HOW LONG HAS IT BEEN SINCE SHE TAUGHT YOU IT? OH MY GOSH, IT WAS AMAZING, YOU WERE AMAZING. GODDESS' THANK YOU SO MUCH!"
In a mesh of jumbled words and sentences, skull kids face was buried in Link's shoulder, leaving the boy incredibly confused and a bit startled yet again by this strange child. In the midst of his confusion, he briefly recalled hugging the skull kid back and a small smile making its way apon his face.
"Youre welcome?" Link responded the best he could from what he could make out and giggled a bit when the straw hat of the skull kid tickled his nose.
When the skull kid pulled away he looked a bit saddened, making the soon to be hero wonder what could be wrong.
"You... are going to see Saria, right? She's just down that pathway...Um..So..you dont get lost anymore.." It said quietly, its arms folding behind its back as it looked down apon its buckled shoes.
Although happy to know where his friend was he gave a bright smile to the skull kid before him.
"Thank you! But just because I have to go now doesnt mean we cant play again sometime." Link giggled as the childs head sprung up at his comment and a huge smile revivaling Links spread across its face.
"Y-Yeah! That would be great!" It jumped a bit with a small giggle and floated in the air in front of Link. "Well..I'll see you later then!" It waved at him as Link began walking in the direction the skull kid had told him to, waving all the way until he disappeared inside the tunnel.
When Link finally did make it to Saria, he plopped himself down in the grass beside her favorite stump as she paused in her playing to greet him.
"Oh, Link! What took you so long? Did you do anything new today?" Saria asked him sweetly.
The Hero stilled for a moment, as if mulling over a thought, before nodding and smiling torwards his best friend.
"Yeah, I did... I made a friend!"

END.

There it is. The story to go with this picture. Hope you like it.
